I spent the night in Plainwell, Michigan last night. At the Motel 6.
The Westin was full.
The Hyatt had too many kids.
I got my room through Priceline.com.
I said I would like a five-star hotel.
It came back and told me it would like a user that had a clue.
I kept lowering the number of stars until I got a room at the price I wanted.
I didn't know you could go as low as .2 stars.
When I got there they gave me room 101. "Must be the front row."
I felt pretty special until I realized I was the only guest.
I got suspicious around 11:00 when the desk clerk called to say he was going home and could I make sure the front door was locked.
I didn't really mind being alone in the hotel but I really didn't like fixing the morning coffee and putting out the breakfast buffet.

But did they leave the light on for you?
I stayed at a Residence Inn that happened to be across the parking lot from a Springhill Suites. I understand brand equity and all that marketing malarky, but find it strange that they are both Marriott properties. Wouldn't it be prudent to not build hotels from the same company next to each other? Don't they compete against each other? Stranger still, their breakfast was exactly the same - sausage and scrambled eggs. Their interet access page was the same, and their layout was the same. In fact, I noticed the manager would occasionally run across the parking lot so perhaps she's doing double duty as well. What I find disconcerting is that one guest in particular would take his family from the cheaper hotel and "break into" our nicer pool at the residence inn. Don't call me a snob, but I don't think that it is fair since I paid twice as much for my accomodations and he gets to bring in his hairy family to enjoy the serenity of my pool. I was going to report him, but instead decided to go over to his hotel to sample their evening brunch - much tastier than the overly crowded version at the Residence Inn.
I once stayed at a Red Roof Inn with a whore house across the street. Or maybe it was a Red Light Inn? Anyway, guests at the Red Roof kept sneaking across the street because the evening spread was better across the street.
Did they notice the reflection from your binoculars in the whore house window?
I didn't think you saw me!
Perhaps, you should have turned that strobe light beacon off.
How else could I have taken those blackmail photos, John? (wink, wink).
Too bad that all you got was the reflection off that window. Oops!
